Our Name
When we chose the name “Definitive Business Solutions,” we sought to capture the essence of what our company stands for: providing clear, decisive, and impactful solutions to complex business challenges. The word “Definitive” reflects our commitment to being the final, authoritative choice for organizations seeking to make informed, strategic decisions. It signifies our dedication to delivering solutions that are not only innovative and effective but also conclusive—solutions that leave no room for doubt and are backed by deep expertise and a track record of success. Phase One:
Launch and Rapid Growth
Founded in 2003, Definitive’s journey began with rapid growth, quickly reaching $2 million in annual revenues by leveraging consulting services alongside third-party technology. This initial phase culminated shortly after the stock market crash of 2008, when the management team helped transition many of their team members to premier clients like Fannie Mae, ensuring their continued professional growth and stability.
Phase Two:
Reimagining and Reinvention
From 2009 to 2014, Definitive operated as a micro business, focusing on delivering quality services to its strategic customer, the U.S. Department of Treasury. Recognizing the limitations of third-party technology, Definitive made a strategic investment in 2015 to develop its proprietary solution, Definitive Pro®. This decision marked the beginning of an era of innovation, culminating in the award of three U.S. patents and initial revenue deals for Definitive Pro®. The company’s commitment to excellence extended to academia, where Definitive began teaching Definitive Pro® at the University of Maryland.
Phase Three:
Embracing Growth and Maturity
In January 2020, Definitive entered its third phase. The company hired a CTO, who had been the lead developer of Definitive Pro® since 2015, and an Executive Vice President for Professional Services, who had been with Definitive in phase one. This phase has been marked by several strategically important deals, continued maturation of Definitive Pro®, and the launch of a new downloadable app, Definitive Choice®. Over the last few years, Definitive has experienced significant growth (FY21: 41%, FY22: 218%, and FY23: 38%), resulting in a 3-year growth rate of 425% over that time. Today, Definitive serves customers at the federal, state, and municipal levels, including its first international customer.

Definitive’s transformation journey has empowered it to lead the industry as pioneers in investment planning solutions. By developing Definitive Pro®, the company eliminated dependencies on external providers, ensuring swift delivery of cutting-edge features and updates. In May 2024, Definitive released AI-enhanced versions of Definitive Pro® and Definitive Choice®, revolutionizing how organizations manage their project portfolios, optimize decision-making, and align projects seamlessly with strategic objectives. This independence allows Definitive to be truly agile and innovative, anticipating and meeting customers’ evolving needs with unparalleled speed and efficiency.
